There is no better time to visit the Margaret River Region as the increased rainfall leaves the land a beautiful bright green hue and the Mediterranean climate provides clear days and cooler evenings.
As the weather cools, pull on a wooly coat and boots and head to Smiths Beach Resort where our views of the ocean turn a moody dark green and our roaring fireplaces make the perfect backdrop for a cozy evening.
Located close to Yallingup, our self-contained accommodation is perfect for a romantic weekend getaway, a vacation with friends or a school holiday adventure for the whole family.
Read on for our recommendations to enjoy a wonderful winter stay at Smiths Beach.
.
Cape-to-Cape Track
This famous 140km track runs directly past the front door of Smiths Beach Resort. While the Smiths Beach section is usually day two for those attempting the hike in its entirety, many guests leave the car at home and enjoy a couple of hours exploring the beach, rock formations and mermaid pools.
We recommend: a private guided tour with Cape-to-Cape Explorer Tours.
.
Wine
There is nothing better than enjoying a glass of Margaret River Wine in front of a roaring fire in the cooler months. Our region boasts extraordinary Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon with a number of other varieties increasing in popularity.
We recommend:
- Guided wine tasting with charcuterie board at Domaine Naturaliste.
- A private driver to safely transport you on a wine tour.

.
Lunch
A long lunch is an institution in the South West and the region’s timeless tradition is supported by a world-class restaurant scene with top chefs offering both a la carte and multiple course set menus coupled with the region’s best wine.
We recommend: the Epicurean Tour at Vasse Felix.
.
Food
You don’t have to go far to experience fine dining at Smiths Beach Resort. Our Lamont’s Restaurant provides an a la carte breakfast and dinner menu with light lunches available on the weekends. Lamont’s also have a gourmet deli with wines, cheeses and re-heatable meals available for those who prefer to dine in their room.
We recommend: Kate Lamont’s famous Shark Bay Whiting – check out the full menu.
.
Whales
These magnificent creatures follow the Western Australian coastline as part of their migration pattern, commonly known as the ‘whale highway’. They can be seen from the shoreline from June in the Southern part of the Margaret River Region and spotted from Smiths Beach in the months following August.
We recommend: Booking an Ocean View Villa and keeping an eye on the horizon.
.
For the kids
There are plenty of activities to keep our littlest guests amused in the cooler months including opportunities to get up close with country life and the unique natural beauty of the region. If you can tear them away from the heated pool and tennis court at Smiths Beach Resort there are caves, mazes, epic playgrounds and a range of fun activities.
