Autumn at Smiths Beach

Share

The months of March, April and May present warm days and cooler evenings as we welcome the arrival of Autumn in the Margaret River Region.

It can be the most enjoyable time to visit Smiths Beach Resort and our guests enjoy the best of both worlds with beautiful moderate days and evenings spent in front of our open fireplaces.

The nearby wine makers have finished picking grapes, marking the end of vintage and we start to see the leaves that make up these crops change to spectacular shades of orange before falling from the vines.  Meanwhile, the general landscape of the region transforms from the yellows of summer to vibrant greens as the rains begin to inject colour into the surrounding farms and forests.

Easter

The alure of a 4-day weekend is enough to tempt visitors from near and far to enjoy their public holidays by the coast. While it is a busy time to visit the South West, visitors can always find a quiet spot to enjoy our stunning coastline, unique wineries and natural attractions.

We recommend:

  • Ensure you book any dining or experiences early to avoid missing out during this busy time, particularly for dinner and evening bookings.
  • Family friendly tour operators will often add an easter spin to their offering during this time. One of our guest favourites, Forage Safaris, has on offer a 4-hour family easter egg hunt and farm tour with transport included.
  • Don’t forget to pre-order your hot crossed buns from local bakery Merchant and Maker.

Here comes the sun(sets)

Autumn is the season for spectacular sunsets as the days grow shorter and dusk is the perfect time to spot the kangaroos that live in the bush area behind the resort.

We recommend:

  • The best place to enjoy a sunset over the ocean is from our Ocean View Villas and Premium Beach Houses. Guests can also head to nearby Smiths Point or Canal Rocks for more beautiful sunset shades.
  • As the sun sets earlier, the wonderful nocturnal mammals that call our region home, also wake up earlier.  Our experience partner South West Eco Tours can take guests into the Australian bushland at night to view possums, bandicoots, Woylies and kangaroos in their native habitat.

Hiking season is officially underway

As the temperatures lower, hiking ramps-up on our iconic Cape-to-Cape Track. The Track runs past the front door of Smiths Beach Resort making it the ideal location to plan a day or multi-day walk along this spectacular coastal path.

Five-star events

The incredible talents and landscapes of the South West are on show this season as the region plays host to a number of exceptional indoor and outdoor events. No matter your interests, there is something for everyone to enjoy this autumn.

We recommend:

  • International surfing competition, The Margaret River Pro, returns to the region on 11-21 April 2024. Part of the World Surf League Championship Tour, punters can watch all the action at Surfers Point in Prevelly with big screens, commentary and food trucks adding to the excitement.
  • If a 42km or 80km run through the forests, trails, beaches and bluffs on the beautiful Cape to Cape coastline is your idea of fun then the Margaret River Ultra Marathon is the event for you. This epic journey is underway 11-12 May 2024.
  • The Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival is the biggest regional literary event in Western Australia and aims to foster a love of literature and the arts within the community. Join local and international artists on 17-19 May 2024.
  • Local landscape artist Tamika Hogan has a flair for capturing Smiths Beach and her paintings will be on show at Voyager Estate from 30 March to 12 May 2024.  Guests are also invited to attend the opening night on 5 April with live music, canapes and wine.

Relaxation and wellness

With its tranquil natural surroundings and laid-back atmosphere, the region is the perfect place to take time out to relax and refresh. Autumn offers a quieter time for visitors to unwind, rejuvenate, and indulge in spa treatments or yoga sessions.

We recommend:

  • Let the wellness come to you with a massage session in your room from Bask Massage. Leave the windows open to listen to the sounds of the ocean during your treatment or turn on the open fire and create a warm cocoon experience.
  • Relax as you take a long walk on Smith Beach. Don’t forget to look up, evening walks are all the more special with spectacular stars lighting up the sky.

Stay at Smiths Beach Resort for less

With the exception of Easter and event weekends, the region starts to become quieter in Autumn and it is the perfect time to visit. Stay at Smiths Beach Resort for less with a Lamont’s dinner and breakfast included by selecting our Margaret River Gourmet Escape package over the cooler months.
