Winter at Smiths Beach

Share

There is no better time to visit the Margaret River Region as the increased rainfall leaves the land a beautiful bright green hue and the Mediterranean climate provides clear days and cooler evenings.

As the weather cools, pull on a wooly coat and boots and head to Smiths Beach Resort where our views of the ocean turn a moody dark green and our roaring fireplaces make the perfect backdrop for a cozy evening.

Located close to Yallingup, our self-contained accommodation is perfect for a romantic weekend getaway, a vacation with friends or a school holiday adventure for the whole family.

Read on for our recommendations to enjoy a wonderful winter stay at Smiths Beach.

Wonderful wine

There is nothing better than enjoying a glass of Margaret River Wine in front of a roaring fire in the cooler months. Our region boasts extraordinary Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon with a number of other varieties increasing in popularity.

We recommend:

Join a truffle hunt

The newest arrival in the region is a truffle farm and after years of nurturing its growth, the team are finally ready to share this black gold with visitors. Join the farmer and their truffle dog for a scenic walk through the trufferie before tasting some of your findings.

The farm is very much in its infancy so they only way to visit the farm is by booking a special tour with our experience partner: Forage Safaris.

Foodie feasts

You don’t have to go far to experience fine dining at Smiths Beach Resort. Our Lamont’s Restaurant provides an a la carte breakfast and dinner menu with light lunches available on the weekends. Lamont’s also have a gourmet deli with wines, cheeses and re-heatable meals available for those who prefer to dine in their room.

We recommend: Kate Lamont’s famous Shark Bay Whiting – check out the full menu.

Whale watching

These magnificent creatures follow the Western Australian coastline as part of their migration pattern, commonly known as the ‘whale highway’.  They can be seen from the shoreline from June in the Southern part of the Margaret River Region and spotted from Smiths Beach in the months following August.

We recommend:

A whale tail visible in the ocean with watchers backs just out of focus.

For the kids

There are plenty of activities to keep our littlest guests amused in the cooler months including opportunities to get up close with country life and the unique natural beauty of the region. If you can tear them away from the heated pool and tennis court at Smiths Beach Resort there are caves, mazes, epic playgrounds and a range of fun activities.

We recommend:

For the adults

The Region’s premier winter festival, Cabin Fever, will occur from 14-23 July and includes over 40 events designed to showcase the best food, wine and entertainment of the region.

We recommend: booking tickets in advance as they sell-out fast.
